Senior Residential Children’s Care Worker – Greater Manchester

Salary: £40,000 – £45,000 (Depending on Experience)

Location: Greater Manchester
Contract Type: Full-Time, Permanent (Temp positions also available)
Hours: 37.5 hours per week (3 x 12-hour shifts + 1.5 hrs for supervisions/training) – therefore, the client is unable to accept any candidate with a 20-hour restriction including sponsored candidates and students.

Do you have a passion for supporting vulnerable young people and a proven track record in residential childcare? We are seeking experienced and dedicated Senior Residential Children’s Care Workers to join our team and play a vital role in shaping the lives of children and young people who have experienced significant trauma.

About the Role:

As a Senior RCCW, you will provide high-quality, therapeutic care to young people while also leading a small team of RCCWs. You’ll be instrumental in the daily operations of the home, supporting the Registered Manager to ensure a safe, nurturing, and supportive environment in line with OFSTED regulations and the home’s values.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Build strong, supportive relationships with young people to foster trust and emotional development.
  • Supervise and mentor a team of up to 4 RCCWs, including appraisals, return-to-work interviews, and day-to-day support.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of care plans tailored to each young person’s needs.
  • Take a lead in safeguarding and risk management, including the use of de-escalation and PMVA techniques.
  • Support with home functions, shift planning, and adherence to policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.
  • Collaborate with external professionals and families to ensure joined-up care for each child.

What We’re Looking For:

Essential:

  • Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent).
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle with business insurance.
  • Minimum 12 months of supervisory experience in a children’s residential setting.
  • Strong working knowledge of Ofsted standards and safeguarding procedures.
  • Experience working with young people with challenging behaviour.
  • Competence in writing risk assessments and managing safeguarding cases.

Desirable:

  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership in Residential Childcare.
  • Experience in OFSTED inspections and therapeutic parenting approaches.

Key Skills:

  • Strong leadership, team-building, and supervision skills.
  • High resilience, motivation, and emotional intelligence.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Organised, IT-proficient (Word, Outlook), and confident managing paperwork.
